Conquering Cancer
Whitehead Spring Lecture Series for High School Students
April 17-19, 2007

The American Cancer Society recently reported that the number of Americans who died of cancer has dropped for the second straight year. It appears we are finally winning the war against a disease that has taken decades to understand. Although doctors are now applying some rational therapies to treat patients, we still have a long way to go.

During the 2007 Whitehead Spring Lecture Series, high school students learned how researchers are unraveling the molecular mysteries of cancer development in search of a cure.

Speakers included Whitehead Member Robert Weinberg and other top researchers in the field of cancer. The event also included a panel discussion on three views of cancer, laboratory tours (Whitehead and off-site biotech labs), and lunch with young Whitehead scientists.
