New Computer Method Advances Systems Biology
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 14, 2003) — A team of
researchers from Whitehead Institute and MIT have developed
a new computational method that will give a boost to
the field of systems biology. The method, developed
by Whitehead scientist Rick
Young and MIT scientist David
Gifford, combines data sets from different kinds
of gene expression and protein/DNA interaction experiments,
in effect corroborating the evidence to produce more
accurate data about the interactions. In findings published
online in Nature Biotechnology, researchers
use this method to combine data from more than 500 experiments
that identify the network pathways that regulate gene
expression in yeast.
