Technical Associate I - Young Lab
Summary
Works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to study the regulatory circuitry of differentiation using chromatin immunoprecipitation techniques coupled with high-data content technologies such as Next-Generation Sequencing (ChIP-Seq) and Microarrays (ChIP-Chip).
Responsibilities:
- Receiving and documenting cell culture samples from collaborators, extracting and fragmenting chromatin DNA, immunoprecipitation of chromatin with antibodies specific for protein transcription factors, ligation of linkers, PCR and agarose gel purification.
- May label and hybridize samples for microarrays.
- Assist in implementing changes in protocols or methods, assists with the training of lab personnel on new methodologies.
- Help ensure that project supports, such as equipment and software, are in place and functioning in accordance with project requirements.
- Facilitate cooperation with WIBR departments and outside collaborators to obtain necessary project resources and support.
- Analyze results and addresses complex technical problems; report to PI or project manager. Consult scientific literature and collaborate with other researchers from the scientific community as needed. May manage a database to compile and present results in a meaningful manner.
- Write and edit reports and papers for presentation and publication, may assist PI or project manager with writing and editing as needed.
- Direct the coordination of material and supply needs for the lab, order basic lab supplies, and assist the Purchasing department with arranging for the servicing and maintaining of major lab equipment. Interact with vendors to investigate novel supplies and technologies.
- Maintain Lab records, compliance with safety, biohazard and radioactivity guidelines.
- Other related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology and 3-5 years of experience in a research laboratory, Master’s degree and 3 years of experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent molecular biology skills in a laboratory setting required
- Experience with chromatin immunoprecipitation a significant plus
- Some data handling and basic analysis may be included so proficiency with computers is recommended.
- Knowledge of various scientific databases and experience with publishing or presenting experimental results highly desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to properly follow complex protocols and document procedures and results required
- Excellent written and oral communication and collaboration skills required
