The Bioinformatics team is part of Whitehead’s Bioinformatics
and Research Computing Department. We train, educate, consult, and
collaborate with laboratory scientists at the Whitehead Institute
for Biomedical Research. The Bioinformatics and Research Computing
department has been teaching bioinformatics courses at the Whitehead
for many years and has recently begun offering select classes to
representatives of the industrial and academic biotech community.
Fran Lewitter, PhD
Fran is the Director
of the Bioinformatics and Research Computing Department.
She holds a PhD in Human Genetics and was a Research Fellow in Medicine
at Harvard University. Her areas of expertise include genomic and
sequence databases and analysis, and automation of computational
analyses.
George Bell, PhD
George is the Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Whitehead. He holds a PhD in Molecular Biology. His areas of expertise include genomics, sequence analysis, microarrays and using programming and database tools to manipulate and analyze large datasets.
Kimberly Walker, MS
Kim is a Bioinformatic Analysts at Whitehead. She holds a MS in
Bioinformatics. Her areas of expertise include database and software
development for scientific tools as well as analysis of genome and
microarray data.
